Pharmaceutical Innovations and Future Prospects
Two-day national conference titled ‘Pharmaceutical Innovations and Future Prospects’ concluded on April 28 at the University of Sargodha.
The conference, organized by the College of Pharmacy, provided a platform to discuss industry knowledge, best practices and latest developments in the various fields of pharmacy, and impact across the healthcare industry. A large number of research scholars, entrepreneurs, and representatives of pharmaceutical industry attended the moot.
About 50 researchers, academics scientists and pharmaceutical experts from across Pakistan shared their research articles and presentations. The discussion was organized under the theme of pharmaceutical research and clinical applications, explore challenges and their solutions to meet the standards of better cure effectively.
The speakers emphasized on resorting modern methods of medical technology to provide healthcare facilities to each patient in Pakistan, especially in women health.
“There is a need to develop for utilizing emerging trends in rational therapy, pharmaceutical and clinical support for patient welfare along with strong linkages with people and to engage media for the awareness of public, health experts concluded.”
In his keynote lecture, Dr Nawazish-i-Husain Syed from Punjab University shared his research on ‘Drug discovery-the missing links: a research perspective in Pakistan.’ He unfolded the mysteries of Physiological and Pathophysiological phenomena for breakthrough therapeutic molecules and stressed to work on missing links in our current research strategies in Pakistan.
Dr Sumbul Qamar from COMSATS University shared her findings about ‘A qualitative exploration of pregnant women’s perspective with iron deficiency anemia.’ She informed about iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a major health problem worldwide, this may not only affect the mother but the neonate also with low birth weight prenatal mortality and preterm delivery. She called for proper disease knowledge and personal care including dietary modifications and adherence to iron folic acid supplements (IFA) which can help in curing and prevention of IDA in the pregnancy.
Dr Sajid Hamid from GCU Lahore presented his paper on ‘Evaluation of nephroprotective effect of methanolic extract of Cosmos bipinnatus plant in gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity.’ He emphasized on methanolic extract of Cosmos bipinnatus have protective effects on gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity by regulating the levels of creatinine, urea, uric acid and blood urea nitrogen.
Each fascinating session of the conference generated interesting debate in the Q&A session, with critical questions by the students and convincing responses by the speakers.
At the end, Dr Saira Azhar, the Principal College of Pharmacy distributed the souvenirs, gifts and participatory certificates among the guest speakers. She said that, these types of activities help students building critical approach for analyzing the texts and also broadens their horizons.
