SARGODHA, Pakistan — May 7, 2026: The Women Development Center (WDC) at the University of Sargodha organized an educational workshop titled "Invisible Threats: Understanding Food Hazards" to promote food safety awareness and encourage healthier eating practices among students.
The session was led by Prof. Dr. Tusneem Kausar from the Institute of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Sargodha, a specialist in Food Safety and Quality, Food Processing and Preservation, and Meat and Poultry Technology. The workshop highlighted the importance of recognizing food hazards that are often invisible yet can pose serious risks to human health.
Held at the Women Development Center (WDC), Johar Block, the event brought together male and female students from across the university. Through interactive discussions and practical examples, participants learned how improper food handling, contamination, and poor hygiene contribute to foodborne illnesses.
Speaking during the session, Prof. Dr. Tusneem Kausar emphasized that many food-related dangers cannot be detected by sight, smell, or taste, making awareness and preventive practices essential for protecting public health. She encouraged participants to adopt safe food handling techniques both at home and in food service environments.
The workshop covered a range of topics, including biological, chemical, and physical food hazards; food safety and hygiene practices; food contamination and foodborne diseases; safe food handling and storage; and healthy eating habits. Participants also received practical guidance on identifying hidden food risks, preventing contamination, and making informed dietary choices.
Organized under the theme "Eat Safe. Stay Aware. Protect Your Health," the event reinforced the message that even small mistakes in food preparation and storage can lead to significant health consequences. The organizers stressed the importance of continuous public education in strengthening food safety culture and reducing preventable illnesses.
The Women Development Center concluded the workshop with its motto, "Learn practically. Eat safely. Live healthier," encouraging students to apply the knowledge gained in their daily lives and share food safety awareness within their families and communities.
The initiative reflects the University of Sargodha's ongoing commitment to promoting health education, scientific awareness, and community well-being through practical learning opportunities.
