University of Sargodha Hosts Workshop to Strengthen Justice System Response to Gender-Based Violence in Pakistan
SARGODHA, Pakistan – March 27, 2024: The University of Sargodha organized a workshop aimed at enhancing the capacity of Pakistan’s justice system to effectively address gender-based violence (GBV), bringing together academics, legal professionals, and development practitioners to discuss practical solutions for one of the country’s most pressing social challenges.
The event, held under the “Gender-Based Violence Reduction in Pakistan Through Increased Justice System Capacity Project,” attracted 30 participants from various sectors. The workshop focused on strengthening institutional mechanisms, improving legal responses, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders involved in combating gender-based violence.
The session featured presentations and discussions led by Gul Hassan Abbas, Executive Director of the Institute for Social Development Foundation (IFSD), and Syed Wajdan Rafaay, Lecturer at the Law College, University of Sargodha. The speakers highlighted the importance of building a responsive and victim-centered justice system capable of addressing the complexities of gender-based violence cases.
Participants engaged in interactive discussions and group activities designed to identify gaps within existing legal and institutional frameworks. The workshop provided a platform for sharing experiences, exchanging best practices, and developing actionable recommendations to improve access to justice for survivors of gender-based violence.
Speaking during the event, facilitators emphasized that strengthening justice sector capacity is essential for reducing gender-based violence and promoting the protection of human rights across Pakistan. They noted that coordinated efforts among educational institutions, civil society organizations, and legal stakeholders are critical for creating sustainable change.
The workshop concluded with a commitment from participants to support continued collaboration and advocacy efforts aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of Pakistan’s justice system in preventing and responding to gender-based violence.
