Department of Urdu University of Sargodha in collaboration with Makatab-e-Asaleeb-o-Nashist organized a one-day seminar In Memory of Dr. Wazir Agha to mark the 15th death anniversary of the renowned poet, critic, and literary figure.
The seminar was presided over by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yar Gondal Chair Dr. Wazir Agha, while renwoned literary figures Dr. Badar Munir, Dr. Yunus Khayal and Dr. Mohsin Magyana graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Prominent literary figures such as Dr. Haroon Rasheed Tabassum, Prof. Yousaf Khalid, Dr. Tariq Habeeb, Mumtaz Arif, Dr. Shafeeq Asif, Dr. Dawood Rahat, and Dr. Arif Sadiq, Najma Mansoor and Zulifqar Ahsan shed light on the multi-dimensional contributions of Dr. Wazir Agha to Urdu literature. 
Addressing the gathering, they highlighted Dr. Wazir Agha’s pioneering role in modern Urdu poetry and criticism. They noted that unlike many contemporaries, he emphasized nazm over the traditional ghazal and incorporated elements of narrative in his poetry. His groundbreaking work on Urdu humor and his theoretical contributions broadened the scope of literary research.
Reflecting on his editorial achievements they remembered Dr. Wazir Agha as the long-time editor of the literary journal Auraq, which he developed into a leading platform for Urdu scholarship. Earlier, he had served as co-editor of Adabi Duniya (1960–1963). His first major book, “In Search of Happiness” (1953), was recognized as a milestone that introduced interdisciplinary themes such as philosophy, economics, and psychology into Urdu criticism.
Highlighting his national and international recognitions they recalled that Dr. Wazir Agha was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan and was also nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
The session was moderated by Dr. Sumaira Ijaz and Dr. Murtaza Hassan, with Prof. Dr. Naseem Abbas Ahmar, Chairperson, Department of Urdu, serving as chief organizer.
