The Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Sargodha organized a seminar to commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Violence against Women.
The event witnessed the participation of a diverse audience, including Prof. Dr. Mian Ghulam Yaseen, Pro-Vice Chancellor University of Sargodha/Chairman Department of Sociology and Criminology, Qaisra Ismail from Sargodha Chamber of Commerce member, Ms. samiya, In-Charge District Harassment Cell Sargodha, Muhammad Naeem, Advocate High Court, other faculty members, and a large number of students.
Prof. Dr. Mian Ghulam Yasin reaffirmed the University of Sargodha's commitment to not only providing quality education but also promoting the values of equality and justice. He stated, every individual has a responsibility to contribute towards establishing peace, preventing violence, and fostering an environment of respect and security.
Qaisra Ismail underscored the significance of women's economic empowerment in eradicating violence. She remarked, Economic stability equips women with independence, which plays a vital role in ending violence. There is an urgent need for collective efforts to safeguard women’s rights.
Ms. Samiya highlighted her institution's efforts in ensuring the safety of women in workplaces and stressed the importance of implementing existing laws. She added, To eliminate harassment at the societal level, we need stringent policies and active public participation.
Advocate Muhammad Naeem shed light on the legal aspects of violence against women, calling for greater awareness of women’s rights and the effective utilization of legal resources.
