UOS Hosted Seminar on Safe Dairy Nutrition

Institute of Food Science and Nutrition (IFSN), University of Sargodha (UoS) in collaboration with Pakistan Dairy Association (PDA) organized an awareness seminar on “Safe Dairy Nutrition” to equip students with scientific knowledge regarding dairy safety, nutritional value, and the significance of processed dairy products in public health.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, graced the event as a Chief Guest While Dr. Shehzad Amin (Chief Executive Officer, PDA), Dr. Muhammad Zubair (Manager Operations, PDA), Hafiz Zafar Iqbal Niazi (Head QA and Regulatory Affairs, Fauji Foods Limited), Ms. Somal Babar Khan (Assistant Manager Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs, PDA) and Dr. Farzana Siddique (Assistant Prof. IFSN, UOS) were the speakers at the seminar.

Addressing the participants, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas underscored the importance of nutrition in daily life, highlighting that a healthy diet provides the energy and nutrients needed for overall well-being and productive lifestyle. He urged students of Food Science and Nutrition to act as ambassadors of safe and nutritious food within their communities.

Dr. Shehzad Amin emphasized that dairy nutrition depends on consuming adequate amounts of dairy products rich in calcium, protein, vitamin D, and B vitamins. He added that ensuring the safety of milk and dairy products is even more essential than their nutritional benefits.

Dr. Muhammad Zubair advised consumers to opt for safe milk processed under controlled conditions, such as pasteurized or UHT milk. He also endorsed measures to expand the supply of safe, nutritious milk and promote the use of processed dairy products and value-added milk items.

Prof. Dr. Mian Anjum Murtaza, Director IFSN, presented a vote of thanks to the guest speakers, and highlighted the critical role of safe milk and dairy products in fulfilling nutritional requirements and ensuring public well-being.
