The University of Sargodha organized a certificate distribution ceremony to acknowledge students who participated in the Each One Teach One initiative under the Prime Minister’s National Literacy Drive.
The initiative, led by the Directorate of Academics in collaboration with the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD), trained around 165 students who volunteered to teach literacy skills within their local communities as part of the nationwide effort to improve literacy rates.
Director General NCHD Mr. Ali Asghar was chief guest while Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaiser Abbas and Pro. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Masood Sarwar graced the occasion as guests of honour. Deputy Director NCHD Umar Daraz, Assistant Director NCHD Asif Ali Tarar, Director Academic Dr. Uzma Shahzadi, Deans, Faculty members and a large number of students attended the event.
Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas commended the students for their commitment. He remarked that Pakistan’s youth are not only the future of the nation but also an active force in its present development, contributing meaningfully to social well-being.
Mr. Ali Asghar appreciated the partnership with UOS and emphasized that the involvement of trained university students would strengthen ongoing literacy efforts at the grassroots level.
He also provided an overview of the current literacy situation in Pakistan, stressing the urgent need to address educational gaps. He added that in an era driven by technology, every individual must possess basic literacy skills to participate effectively in society.
In her concluding remarks, Dr. Uzma Shehzadi highlighted that the program not only advances national literacy objectives but also fosters a strong sense of social responsibility among students by engaging them directly in community learning.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates among the student volunteers in recognition of their service.
