The University of Sargodha hosted its inaugural Alumni Gala Dinner 2025, an extraordinary event that marked a pivotal moment in the university’s 96-year history. This historic gathering brought together a large number of former students, creating a platform for them to reconnect and celebrate the success of their alma mater.
The event was graced by notable alumni and prominent figures from various fields, including renowned journalist and television anchor Sohail Warraich, Habib Akram, former Secretary of Education Saleem Ranjha, political leader Mian Subhan Yamin, Gymkhana Secretary Usman Warraich, leading businessman and President of the Chamber of Commerce Khawaja Yasir Qayyum, educationist Irfan Akbar Choudhry, entrepreneurs like Abdullah Mumtaz and Sajad Tarar, Shoaib Ahmad Basra, as well as key university officials including Registrar Waqar Ahmed, Controller of Examinations Dr. Rehana Ilyas, Chairman Hall Council Prof. Dr. Amir Ali, and Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ilyas.
In his keynote address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas shared insights into the significant academic and research advancements that the university has made in recent years. Dr. Qaisar Abbas also shed light on the university’s recent initiatives which led to complete transition, like the completion of the Solar Energy Project resulting in significant cost savings and making the institution more environmentally sustainable.
The Vice Chancellor proudly announced that the university currently boasts a strong alumni network of over 450,000 graduates, with more than 20,000 officially registered alumni. This accomplishment is a testament to the university's long-standing commitment to academic excellence and the strong sense of community among its graduates.
Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas also shared exciting news for alumni, revealing the establishment of an Alumni Hall, where former students can gather and celebrate their shared experiences.
During the Gala, several alumni took to the stage to share their experiences. Renowned journalist Sohail Warraich reminisced about his time at the university, recalling how it helped shape his career. He praised Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas for leading the institution towards remarkable reforms that align with the demands of the 21st century.
Sohail Warraich acknowledged that the transformation of the university from Government College Sargodha to the University of Sargodha has been nothing short of extraordinary, and he commended the Vice Chancellor’s leadership in driving such positive change.
Habib Akram, another distinguished alumnus, also shared fond memories of his time at the university, referring to it as a beacon of educational excellence. He expressed his pride in being a part of an institution that has continuously evolved and made significant contributions to the educational landscape.
Khawaja Yasir Qayyum, emphasized the importance of the university in the region's economic development. He praised the progress made under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, noting the university’s pivotal role in shaping the future of Sargodha and the surrounding areas.
Dr. Ahmad Raza Bilal, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of this Alumni Gala as the first of its kind in the university's 96-year history.
The event concluded with Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mian Ghulam Yasin extending his heartfelt thanks to all the distinguished guests and alumni who attended. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to continuing the tradition of hosting the Alumni Gala every year, ensuring that former students remain an integral part of the university’s journey.
