The global pandemic (COVID-19) has had a significant impact and dramatically
changed the ways to live, learn and work. We must use Covid’s lessons rather than going back to the pre-
pandemic state if we want to increase student-teacher engagement in learning. This was the crux of a special
lecture delivered by Dr. Syed Muhammad Junaid Zaidi (H.I., S.I.) the founder Rector COMSATS University
Islamabad.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas welcomed the distinguished guest and thanked him for gracing the
University. Moreover, he spoke about the university's ongoing academic and research endeavors as well as his
long-term objectives for enhancing the university's reputation.
The event was organized by the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), University of
Sargodha on Tuesday to discuss the current status of higher education quality in Pakistan and the post-COVID
classroom.
Addressing the seminar, Dr. Junaid Zaidi advised that in order to start fresh in this scenario, we should reorganize
our classroom as our conventional teaching techniques were antiquated. It makes sense to want things to return to
the way they were before Covid, but let's not be hasty in making drastic changes, he added.
Dr. Junaid Zaidi pointed out that our universities are known for their strong classroom teaching rather than
contributing to add value in uplifting socio-economic status of Pakistan through productive impact factor
research. The gap between academia and industry is widened in Pakistan as our research projects failed to address
the concerns of the industry.
Concluding the lecture, Dr. Zaidi recommended resetting educational goals by producing quality impact factor
research, innovation and commercialization, market-oriented curricula, use of modern teaching-learning methods
and technologies, and inculcating values among society.
