A study tour of PICS and DPIR to attend the “Tea for harmony-YAJI Cultural Salon”

The Confucius Institute at University of Sargodha (CI UoS) and Pakistan Institute of China Studies (PICS) UoS jointly organized a group of 121 students to attend a cultural event hosted by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan on Wednesday, May 22, 2025. The event, titled “Tea for Harmony – YAJI Cultural Salon,” was held to commemorate the 74th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. The study tour was designed to provide students with a unique opportunity to engage with the cultural and traditional elements of Chinese heritage as celebrated within Pakistan. Selected students from the Department of Political Science and International Relations (DPIR) who were taught the courses on “Pakistan China Relations” and “China’s Foreign Policy” in the current semesters,were accompanied by four staff members from PICS: Ms. Alishba Aslam, Mr. Waqar Pervaiz, Ms. Aqsa Malik (Research Officers), and Ms. Shafaq Hanif (Local Chinese Language Teacher, Confucius Institute, University of Sargodha) along with two faculty members from DPIR—Mr. Amin Athar (Lecturer) and Ms. Mehreen Yaseen (DSA-DPIR)—visited the event. Upon arrival, the students and faculty were warmly welcomed by Mr. Chen Peng, Cultural Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad, along with his team. The students were given an exposure of Chinese culture including presentations of various kinds of Chinese teas, an elegant display of Chinese floral art, a traditional dance performance, classical Chinese music performed on the Guzheng, and a showcase of traditional Chinese attire (Hanfu).

 An informative section of the event included a bookstall and a "history wall" displaying literature and visual materials focused on the longstanding diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan. The students of DPIR wore traditional Chinese clothing, with guidance and cultural context provided by Chinese staff members and actively learned different aspects of Chinese culture. 

The event concluded with a Hi-Tea hosted by Mr. Chen Peng in honor of the students, followed by a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.

Mr. Amin Athar, Lecturer at DPIR, extended his special thanks to Mr. Chen Peng, the Cultural Counselor, and Prof. Dr. Tahir Mumtaz Awan, for organizing such a vibrant and engaging event for the students of the University of Sargodha. He also expressed his keen interest in the continuation of such cultural exchanges in the future, recognizing their value in promoting mutual understanding and educational enrichment.Students from DPIR also expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for providing the opportunity to participate in the cultural salon. Many conveyed a deepened interest in Chinese culture and shared their hope that the university will continue to arrange similar educational and cultural experiences in the future.
