Department of CS&IT organizes orientation seminar on Huawei ICT Completion 2018
The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology organized an orientation seminar on Huawei Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Competition 2018.
The orientation, held on on September 19, 2018, was part of a series of seminars about registration procedure of Huawei ICT Competition 2018 – jointly launched by Huawei Technologies Co and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) team has been organizing seminars in various famous universities of the Punjab region.
The seminar, held in collaboration with Huawei Technologies, KICS-UET Lahore, was attended by high officials of Huawei Technologies Pakistan including the focal person of Huawei in Pakistan, Shayan Khan, Manager Training and Research, Fahmeed Akram and two marketing executives Faisal Mehboob and Muhammad Muneer.
Representatives from KICKS-UET and Huawei shared the achievements of Pakistani students in previous Huawei ICT Competitions. They emphasized the importance of ICT skills and future perspectives of Huawei Technologies and guided the students about registration and preparation for the competition.
The categories set for the competition include cloud computing, routing and switching, network security and wireless. The winners will be selected to compete for the national event while first 10 winning students of national competition will represent Pakistan in the international competition held at Gulf.
The winner of international event will receive cash prize of USD 30,000 while the participants of this event will receive one month fully funded trip for china and many job opportunities in multinational companies.
More than 300 students from CS&IT Department attended the event and approximately 250 students were registered themselves for the upcoming competition exam which will be held in the second week of October at the University.
The Department of CS&IT agreed to conduct seminars and workshops on cyber security, HCNA (routing and switching) and relevant technologies in future. It also agreed to extend collaboration for launching the Huawei ICT Academy Program which provides opportunities to study advanced technologies and join Huawei’s globally renowned university-enterprise cooperation model.
The Huawei ICT Competition is part of Huawei’s longstanding effort to have a positive impact on the community in Pakistan, just like the ‘Seeds for the Future’ program, it helps offer training and internships to promising students across the region. The competition material is based on advanced Network and Cloud material, and tests contestant on their knowledge of cloud computing, switching, routing, and network security. It is a unique opportunity for students to test their abilities in ICT’s most innovative fields.
The competition invites universities and colleges to participate for promoting professional certifications in the tech field and the development of the local ICT industry talent in Pakistan.
