UOS and SMEDA Launch Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative (YEI)

Consequent upon signing an MOU in May this year, University of Sargodha (UOS) and Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) formally launched “Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative” (YEI). The launching seminar was organized by ORIC-UOS and the Department of Business Administration (DBA) in the main auditorium of DBA on 13th April, 2017. Dr. Masood Sarwar Awan, being the director ORIC and dean of Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences, formally welcomed the Provincial Chief SMEDA, Mr. Raja Hassanain Javaid and his team. He said “Youth has potential to uplift the national economy however, we need to guide them and equip them with right set of skills and YEI is a step taken to help our students in developing and polishing their business skills”.

At this occasion the provincial Chief SMEDA, Raja Hassanain Javaid addressed the faculty and students of the university and gave a comprehensive presentation on important steps involved in starting a new business. He said “Many potential entrepreneurs, having ability to start a business, do not take initiative only because of fear of failure. The most important step to start a new business is to trust your abilities and take initiative with full confidence and a clear vision and for this, I offer the expert services and advice of SMEDA officials to the UOS students. If you have a business plan, share with us and we shall help you in building it up to a new venture”. During his presentation, he shared formats and templates with the students and faculty and encouraged them to start thinking systematically on their business plan.

The seminar was attended by the students and faculty members of the Department of Business Administration, Department of Economics, Department of Commerce, Department of CS and IT, Department of Education and University College of Engineering. In the end, Director ORIC, on behalf of VC UOS, Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed, announced that the university will organize a business idea competition in November, 2017 and SMEDA will support in commercialization of successful business ideas of students.
