The field of Plant Sciences has opened an exciting frontier in sustainable development of human resources. With the realization of foreseen advantages of unprecedented application, plant sciences received great attention the world over, including developing countries.
The department offers PhD, MS/MPhil, MSc and BS programs designed to meet the ever-growing needs in the fields of plant sciences. The Department has very strong teaching and productive research groups that make fine blend of professionals well versed with practical application of plant sciences and its future potentialities in development of agriculture as an industry.
The main thrust areas of teaching and research are plant systematic, ethno-botany, plant stress physiology, plant biotechnology, molecular biology, advance plant ecology, genetics, environmental botany and plant biochemistry. Our faculty has national and international research grants from Global Crop Diversity Trust, HEC and UOS as well as Research Productivity Awards.
The department has very strong international and national collaborations with USDA-ARS University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA; Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, Bangladesh Agriculture University, Mymnisingh etc.
The main aim of our teaching and research is to provide integrative and conceptual foundations of plant sciences so that our graduates may endow with a broad range of skills and be able to convert their knowledge into business opportunity.
