Dean Faculty of Islamic & Oriental Learning


The Faculty of Islamic & Oriental Learning was established by an administrative order in 2009. It is one among all the 06 faculties created by UOS. This Faculty comprises of the Departments of Arabic, Islamic Studies, Persian, Punjabi and Urdu. Under the Semester System, the programs offered in this faculty are BS, MA, M.Phil & PhD in different fields. The Arabic Department focuses on language & literature of Arabic. The Department is offering MA (Arabic) under semester system from the session 2008. M. Phil (Arabic) under semester system from the session 2010 and PhD (Arabic) under semester system from the session 2014. The department of Islamic Studies at UOS offers the opportunity to acquire knowledge, methods, skills, and capabilities necessary to understand and evaluate ideas of Islam. Achieving the hallmark of pure academic and research atmosphere, department also launched MPhil Program in January 2008 and PhD Program in 2010. These Programs focus on modern and classical research methodologies in the field of Islamic and religious studies at higher level. The Persian Department focuses on language & literature of Persian. The Department is offering MA (Persian) under semester system from the session 2008. M. Phil & PhD (Persian) under semester system from 2012 onward. The department of Punjabi at UOS offers the opportunity to acquire knowledge, methods, skills, and capabilities necessary to understand and evaluate Punjabi Language. The department is running the BS & MA Program already and has decided to start MPhil & PhD Program in near future. These Programs focus on modern and classical courses in the field of Punjabi at higher level. The Urdu Department focuses on language & literature of Urdu. The Department is offering BS, MA, M.Phil & PhD (Urdu) under semester system. The programs and courses offered in faculty of Islamic & Oriental Learning will enable to develop an advanced knowledge of languages & literatures, especially direct access to basic Islamic, social, cultural, linguistic and historical sources in the sub-continent. The students can get particularly new stream of ideas, concepts and notions in contemporary literature and able to evaluate the events relevant in Islamic & other oriental areas including Iran and Arabian countries etc. It enables a learner to get his earnings in various fields of life with the translation of subjects related to Oriental Countries heritage in to other languages. A scholar can feel at home, he can earn smooth living in different fields of Islamic and Oriental Learning as well. It can be achieved easily by adopting any field in this faculty.
