The Department of Food Science and Technology was established in August 2005 and promoted to the status of Institute of Food Science and Nutrition in 2010. A well-equipped library with latest editions of books and journals has been made available to the students, in central library for faculty and the research staff. Institute of Food Science and Nutrition has latest equipment for Food Analysis including Amino Acid Analyzer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Flame-Photo-Meter,Visco meter, Spectrophotometer, Freeze Drier, Vacuum Rotary Evaporator, HPLC (in central high tech lab) in running condition.
IFNS has won Pak-US joint fund Project worth 18 million which will further strengthen laboratory facilities through establishment of Fruit and Vegetable Processing Center , which includes canning and dehydration unit. IFSN has also initiated a semi commercial Food Sale Project, while backing and cereal and diary research centers are underway for establishment which will help in product development and student training on modern lines. IFSN has established strong linkages with Nutrition with newly established nutrition labs.
The Institute is promoting collaboration with other National and International Universities, which would be of great benefit to our students and faculty. The Institute is committed to provide excellent education to the undergraduate and graduate students. The students avail the opportunity to have an on job training through internships in the Food Industries, Chain Restaurants, Five Star Hotels, Catering Institutions, Hospitals and Research Organizations. The curriculum focuses on developing professional skills and entrepreneurship.
